💡 Learn to ride the waves.
Living the adult life can be quite the ride! Some weeks everything falls into place and you sail smoothly through the days. But then there are those weeks that feel like a constant storm, with waves crashing into you from every turn.
During the good times, you might be smashing your gym sessions, eating well-planned healthy meals, getting restful sleep, and feeling like a stud. But when it gets rough, gym sessions get skipped, cupboards go empty, exhaustion sets in, and the temptation of takeout menus and a glass of wine gets real.
It happens to the best of us. The thought of maintaining a consistent routine every single week without fail seems so appealing, doesn't it? Maybe you think you need just a little more discipline? Or you start wondering if you're just lazy?
Or could it be that you're simply human, and sometimes life just gets in the way?
As anyone who's done a bit of ocean swimming knows, the golden rule is "Don't fight the current." You'll just end up exhausted and still heading the wrong way. The same goes for trying to maintain "perfect consistency" no matter the circumstances. Initially, you might gain some ground, but eventually, the waves will win.
So what am I suggesting? Should you just let the waves knock you down—skip workouts, eat takeout, drink wine, and start over next week? We've all been there, but in the long run, you lose too much progress and feel beaten down for it.
How about a third option?
We accept that we're in the middle of a storm; we recognise the ups and downs but also choose our battles wisely. We might not be able to maintain "perfect consistency," but we can still manage to tread water in some areas; maybe even nudge progress in others. Maybe you miss two out of three gym sessions due to a sick child, but you make the most of that one good session. Your meal planning hits a snag, but you know a few "good-enough" options near the office. Your lunchtime gym sessions get missed, but you make sure to still get some steps in.
By allowing some flexibility in your consistency, it no longer becomes a fixed point but a variable that can ride the waves.
🎥 Pre Run Stretch
A simple stretch I've been adding in pre-runs is the A-frame calf pry. It's quick and easy and helps get things loosened off before you hit the road. Why not give it a try? 👍
🤔 Quote to Ponder

You might have the best plan going but life always gets a vote; it's a good thing we are learning to ride the waves. 🌊
