Not Every Workout Is Meant to Be a PB 🥉

You know those days when everything just clicks?
Weights feel lighter. You’re moving better. Maybe you hit a PB you didn’t even plan for. That’s the kind of session that makes you think, “Yep, I’m back. This is how it should feel every time.”
But here’s the catch: those “stud” days — they’re the outliers, not the standard.
If you start chasing that feeling every session, it’s easy to get frustrated when things feel... off.
That’s where the Rule of Five comes in. Think of your training like this:
1 in 5 sessions? You’re flying. Strong, focused, full of beans.
1 in 5 sessions? Total grind. Weights feel like lead. You wonder if you’ve lost all progress.
The other 3? You just show up and get it done. Nothing fancy, nothing broken. You’re there, putting in the reps.
And honestly? Those middle three — the punch-the-clock workouts — are the ones that actually move the needle long term.
We all love the highs. They’re motivating as hell. But they don’t define your progress. In fact, progress isn’t a straight line. It’s more like a tide — the highs get higher, the lows rise with them, and over time, the average shifts upward.

So if today’s one of those “dud” days? No biggie; that’s just part of the rhythm. Scale back. Focus on good technique. Let that be enough.
Because showing up — especially on the tough days — is where the real wins stack up.
P.S. If you enjoyed this week's Thursday Three, please share it with a friend.
Thanks,
Jamie
