There’s a Time for Being Ahead, and a Time for Being Behind 🧐

Just as you breathe in and breathe out,

there is a time for being ahead

and a time for being behind;

a time for being in motion

and a time for being at rest;

a time for being vigorous

and a time for being exhausted;

a time for being safe

and a time for being in danger.

This passage from the Tao Te Ching hit me hard this week. It's been one of those weeks—no, months—of negotiating last-minute house deals, frantic emails to solicitors, moving house, dealing with ceiling leaks, painting walls. Plus the usual work and two crazy boys. Something had to give. And let's be real—it was my training, sleep, and eating habits.

But here's the thing: I did my best to not let them slip away completely.

I knew this was a temporary season of chaos, so instead of throwing in the towel, I let things go on the back burner. A couple solid strength sessions per week? That will do. Cycling to and from work? Keeps me moving. Starting the day with a proper breakfast? Non-negotiable, even if lunch and dinner were a bit more... improvised.

I see this with clients all the time. One's navigating a busy week with business day #1. Another's knee-deep in house drama. Someone else is juggling international travel. Others are working through injuries. Life happens. And when it does, sometimes you're ahead, and sometimes you're behind.

The key? Don't let a busy season derail you completely. Adapt. Scale down instead of stopping altogether. Keep some good habits in play, even if they're not perfect. Because when the season shifts—and it always does—you'll be in a much better position to pick up the pace again.

So if you're in a busy stretch right now, don't sweat it. Just don't ghost yourself either. Keep a few things ticking over, and remember: there's a time for being behind—and a time for getting back ahead.
